In the Community: Summer Sprouts Dinner

Contributed by Paige Hillebert.
What a lovely evening, with wonderful people gathering around delicious food and supporting a fantastic cause. This past Sunday, the Hilary’s Team was happy to be a part of a fundraiser for a local program that is very near and dear to our hearts.
The Healthy Sprouts Farm to Preschool Program is a non-profit organization that was founded in our home town of Lawrence, Kansas. The program was created in January 2011, by the Douglas Country Child Development Association, to address the community’s needs for a stronger local food system, increased community self-reliance and food security. Healthy Sprouts works to connect children ages one through six with healthy food so that they can establish good dietary patterns for the rest of their lives. Healthy Sprouts helps increase access to local, nutritious food and to strengthen the local food system, all while providing a comprehensive food education. They do this by partnering with child care centers and in-home care providers to set up gardens where children can learn and grow. To read more about this wonderful organization check out their Facebook page.
To help raise money for all of the important work that they do, our team donated a healthy, local meal that community supporters could all gather around. Hilary Brown and Hilary Kass whipped up a delicious three course meal filled with our yummy bites, burgers, and dressing, along with some old favorites from Local Burger, the restaurant that started it all. The food was gathered from local, organic sources that are as committed to healthy, Non-GMO food as we are.
It was such a joy for our team to be a part of such a wonderful event and provide healthy, local food for all the families and community members that came out to show their support for this tremendous organization.
