Happy Earth Day!!

Happy Earth Day from Hilary’s Eat Well!  To celebrate this weekend, our hometown of Lawrence, KS held a big event Saturday April 20, 2013 at South Park.  We kicked it all of with a Parade hosted by KU Environs that went through downtown Lawrence to the park.  Reportedly 50 vendors were in attendance at this year’s annual celebration.  All of the vendors had a common theme, teaching the public what they can do to live more conscience of their impact on our plant.
The first table we stopped at was Solar Cookers International. They had a solar oven on display—and our first thought was obviously, “Wow!  What a great way to cook veggie burgers!”  We’ll have to try that soon. 🙂  Near them, Pinnacle Career Institute was giving away seed packets and free massages….yes, please!  Even though we had just got there, we took them up on that offer.
The Operation Wildlife (also known as OWL) table had a very large gathering of folks around it, and it was easy to see why. Perched there, they had a Barn Owl, Great Horned Owl, Screeching Owl, and an America Kestrel Hawk.  They were so close you almost could touch them!  It was so cool to experience these amazing animals that close.  The kids loved it!
We also loved seeing our local co-op, The Community Mercantile (The Merc) there. They had some great activities for the whole family, educating about how to better treat our earth for a brighter future.  The whole event was fun, and very family friendly.  It was a great way to get people of all ages to be more educated on how everything we do impacts the planet that we all share.
We all hope you have a wonderful Earth Day!  Don’t forget that we should always respect mother earth, and make conscience choices that lessen our impact everyday!
